Is it healthy for a socially isolated teen to repeatedly ';date'; girls from chat rooms online...?

when he gets so caught up in this illusion and then is crushed when it doesn't work out? I mean he keeps doing it and it keeps failing. How detrimental is this to him? He is 17 and has isolated himself for about 2 years....only communicating with others online. He goes to online school as well. ThanksIs it healthy for a socially isolated teen to repeatedly ';date'; girls from chat rooms online...?
Sounds kind of bad in my opinion. You need social interaction, online doesn't count. You don't know the people for who they truly are, you only ';know'; what you're told. Half truths and blatant lies are all you get.

Get him out, for his sake. But make it easier by finding some groups of people he's intrested in. I've heard there's online sites to find people to play role playing games, or play an online game with friends either from there or friends he knows.

Internet girls are usually guys for some godforsaken reason, tell him to find a real one. It's going to be hard with him leaving his safe zone, but isolation is bad, real bad.

Start with real friends, then work on a relationship. But without the first step he'd be stuck living that cycle without much hope for an escape. Is it healthy for a socially isolated teen to repeatedly ';date'; girls from chat rooms online...?
it's not healthy at all, especially as he goes to an online school. if you don't exercise your social skills during your childhood and teenage years, you'll find it very difficult to cope when you have to get a job and deal with the realities of adult life. encourage him to take up a sport or hobby, acting, theater, painting, anything to get him out of the house and meeting people.
How can you have an intimate interaction with a person on line? No physical contact; no emotion; no intimacy. Of course the relationships (if you can even call them that) fail. There is nothing there to sustain them.
